Words falling off the page

November 8th 2006 04:14
Hey, has anyone else had this problem? Basically, the column expands -- there's more words per line -- but the extra words don't quite make it and fall off the page. The image of the voting number is cut in half.

Seems to be happening with one of my posts.

I've seen it before, and assumed it was only a temporary glitch sort of thing, but seems to be happening all the time that post.

Erm, no it shouldn't be possible. Somehow you've uploaded a picture that is 527px wide - I'm not sure how! It should have been resized to 400px wide. I'll try to figure out what is going on...

I've gotten this problem a few times, I don't know if you guys have gotten this feedback before. It also sometimes happens when I'm modifying a post.

Okay, I'm having the 'falling off the page' issue again on www.postmoderncritic.com atm. Any help would be very much appreciated... )

Btw, I've noticed that my posts are considered to have been posted not when I press 'create' but the moment I open up the 'create new post' page.

Hi postmoderncritic

Can you give us the URL of the post(s) where this is happening?

Not sure what's going on with the post creation stuff - nothing is inserted into the database until you press the 'Create Post' button. Do you mean the date/time is set incorrectly? This is set automatically when you open the 'Create New Post' page so maybe this is the problem? Can you see the 'Display Time' field? This is only available for some Blogs, but if you CAN see it you can modify it so the post will appear at the correct time.

Hi Jay,

It's happening with every post on the main page. The URL for my last post is:
http://www.postmoderncritic.com/ascannerdarkly/

There's also a problem with
http://www.postmoderncritic.com/sugababes/, not as dramatic but still the innermost section exceeds the space usually reserved for it.

The rest seem to be fine.

> nothing is inserted into the database until you press the 'Create Post' button

Thanks for the feedback, I'm probably just imagining things. )

Hi postmoderncritic

Ah - I see the problem. This is because you've included long URLs in the text. The text cannot be wrapped as it is a continuous string of characters. In Firefox the box is not stretched - the URL just appears to continue outside the box. However, in IE the box is stretched to include the long URL.

My advise would be to add links (as you have above) to the items you have used but quote just the website base address (ie - the http://www.orble.com/ bit). I think this should be fine from a copyright point of view - Jon??

Hey Jay, check out another example here. Not sure what the cause is (doesn't seem to be big picture or long URL).

This is caused by Hellvis using the word(?) AAAA......AAAAHHH...HHH!! - again, it's a series of characters without spaces (so it can't be broken up) that causes the problem, just like with the long URLs.

Having said that I thought I'd fixed this problem for comments?? Obviously not

LOL,

Should've known that my cries of pain would cause trouble. That'll teach Voices to mention Britney Spears on my blog.

Anyway, it seems to be fixed now, so thanks Jay, and thanks to Adrian for pointing it out.
