is there a reason we can't upload BITMAP images on our posts?
i find i spend a substantial amount of time converting the format of pics to include in my posts
does anyone else find this little restriction inconvenient?

thanks for the explanation, that makes sense
i didnt realise there was a file size difference but i just checked some of my converted images and the JPG version is indeed only about a tenth the size of the BITMAP . . . you learn something everyday
hi Ahmed,
i find alot of images from websites only have an option to save as BITMAP and then i have to open the image in Picasa (free Google program) to save it as JPG . . . no i dont have any really good image photoshopping software on my computer, only the very basics . . . you should have seen me flip out trying to convert a TIF file to JPG the other day haha im not exactly technically minded but i usually find a way to get by
thanks guys

As for other sites forcing you to save as a BMP? That's very strange, are your ight cliking on images and hitting the 'save image as' option? Could be something to do with your browser...

GIMP, like Open Office, feels like a chinese copy of products you pay money for.
GIMP is especially terrible compared to photoshop -_-

i right click on the image and press "save picture as" and sometimes (maybe a third of the time) the only option is BITMAP and the rest of the time is it JPG . . . if i do a screen grab i press "PrtSc" and then open MS Paint and paste it there and can save it as JPG there and then crop it in MS Picture Manager, but MS Picture Manager doesnt have a function to convert image types to "save as" like MS Paint does
oh also, i use Internet Explorer to browse so its probably not the most efficient i just prefer it because its familiar . . . those old school comforts lol
hi Cibbuano,
thanks for the link!
a poor mans Photoshop . . . GIMP could be just what i was looking for!
