When Should an Article be a Spotlight Post?
August 5th 2008 02:51
Is there a particular factor that decides if an article is a "Spotlight Post"? Love to hear any ideas.

when i pick posts to be "spotlight posts" i often select those that i have put the most amount of effort into, the ones that took a long time to write or research, or contain material that im proud of
i have seen it suggested that a "spotlight post" could include something you would direct new readers to look at in order for them to get an idea about the purpose or style of the blog, or some handy insights into the writer (ie you) . . . so perhaps your debut "intro" post or a FAQ or something that you think epitomises your intentions
personally i try to put my less popular posts as "spotlights" to generate interest in the articles that didnt rate as well when first posted . . . this also gives some variety for my readers so the "spotlight" and "popular" lists dont double up with the same posts
another thing i sometimes do is put articles on topics i consider to be important as "spotlights" . . . things that contain information i think people should read, like community service announcements about subjects i think are worthwhile (eg: factsheets on homophobia, environmental warnings, promotions for events or products)
i hope all that helps
im sure as you browse around you will see everyone has a different system and they change their spotlights from time to time

Thank you all for your comments on this post. I was always a little unsure about the "Spotlight" post and your comments clarified a few things for me.
Cheers
