What time to post?

November 7th 2007 22:57
Given that most users here are from Australia, would it make more sense to list at a different time as I am from the UK?

I only ask this because at our daytime the blogs are quite quiet. One day Orble will be truely global, but until then I have to be pragmatic.

Thankyou in advance for your' comments

Chris

I think it's hard to judge. If you post during Australian Day time there are probably more readers but there is also more competition.

If you post during UK or USA day time there are probably still quite a few readers but you will have less other posts to compete with.

If any other writers have an opinion on this I'd be very interested to hear it.

Why can't there be a "time line" at the top of the post, or even each individual blog, now that would be good!

Australian, USA (East & West Coast) and UK (London) times; maybe a little version of each nation's flag then the time read out?? AND....as each nation develops more members, then their time zone and flag can be added!!!

That would be grooooovy!

Soooo international...sigh...

Oh, and France too!

cheers

Hi Jon,

Thankyou for getting back to me, the point you make about more competition is a good one. I will give it a try posting at around about 9pm today our time and see if there is a differerence in initial readership. I will let you know how I get on.

Thanks Again

Chris

I think the best times would be mid day (with GMT 11) but in generel I think the time of day you post in doesn't have nearly as much of an influence as the content you're posting.

Having said that I think there may be sometimes that you should avoid posting, around two to four am (again with GMT 11) but still, I think the content is more the getter than the time of day.

Generelly speaking if you end with a question you get answers which could also help push you up the orble top ten posts which seem to rely on votes (therefore comments) more than anything else.

Yes Ahmed, I agree with the following comment,

Thankyou for the feedback. I recognise that I DO need to improve my content exponentially. I haven't managed to identify exactly what I want to say except for that I want to be honest( that is why I use my full name). I have so much experience working for various companies that I am unsure which information to write about first. So I decided to start regardless.
Tests have proven that people that don't do SOMETIMES have more knowledge than people that DO DO. The doers are obviously more successful. So I am going to just do it and catch up with any shortcomings I have afterwards. If I wait until all skills are learned and everything is perfect, it will NEVER happen.

Ahmed, thankyou, you hit the nail on the head. My content needs to get better, and I will strive to make it better.

Speaking as an Aussie recently moved to the UK and having all sorts of fun with my internet providers I can tell you from my own experience that it really doesn't make that much difference with the times.

When I was back in Sydney I would make sure my posts hit the early lunchtime crowd, but now being in the UK and posting at odd hours, I'm noticing I get the same amount of comments etc as I was before, even though it's sometimes quite late at night 'back home'.

Hey, I'm just happy to have the internet back again just of the last 10 minutes! I'll take whatever I can get - especially with over 940 emails to now read!

Hi MelissaA,

Thankyou for your' response, I am glad to hear your' connection is sorted. You are right, it didn't make any difference to views when I posted closer to Australian time. The views just happened a lot quicker. A warm welcome to the UK, which part of Britain did you move to?
I am amazed that someone would move to the UK to get away from all that Australian sand sea and surf.

Hi Chris, we've moved just south of Manchester in the Cheshire area - whereabouts are you at?

LOL - you're not the first person over here to comment on that! And everyone over here seems to think I'm really weird for loving this much rain, but as I keep pointing out, move down to Australia where we're now at 10 years of drought and water restrictions, and you'll soon come to appreciate it.
We will be going back to Aus some day - just not for the next couple of years at least.

Hi Chris, I don't think it matters too much once you get going, but I generally post at about 2100 Orble time, and that gets me onto the default page quicker. After that it doesn't matter so much, but I find that sometimes if I post around 1300 - 1700 hours I might not get up there for a while, and so my post gets a bit 'lost' if I'm not on the default page as newer posts come in. At least until some kind person comes and finds me! That said, posting Saturday arvo can be good. As long as I get that first ten points, I've then got hardly any competition, and people who come on for a bit of a read end up reading my post for lack of anything better probably! Lol.

Hope that helps a bit!

It all depends on your audience and what you post. If you have a good number of people reading, it doesn't matter when you post it, they'll find it

Posting time? Hmmm, content would seem to be the more potent consideration.

With that said; I must also note that an interesting title, photo and lead in will capture readers attention far more quickly than the time or the brilliant content of most postings.

Folks will skim over post listings and will click on the bright and shiny offerings first: sadly, many of the truly brilliant pieces are over looked as a result.

Besides, Alaskan time is a bit bizarre; especially in the summer with our 24 hours of daylight. So, post when it's convenient.

I have noticed since the start that my timing has been out of whack a bit. As I am posting at 10pm where I am now and it'll show what time below?
I am Canadian and in the Eastern Time Zone. Great to chat with all of you from around the world especially Australia.

I think lot of people including international members have joined this site. So it is difficult to tell hwat tie exactly we should post our postings.
Hence i would prefer just posting and leave it to people who can decide upon voting my posts.

Seems like a bit of trial and error is the key. Thanks for the tips - all good info for a newbie!
