Thinking about starting an "Orble Tech Watch" network
November 17th 2006 00:35
Hi all,
I've spent quite a bit of time on Orble today surfing the categories and getting a feel for the community. I surfed through most of the technology related blogs and found a common event... few votes.
To give you a few examples Techbreak and TechnologyView have some posts that I think are probably top notch according to the industry average standard. These guys, in my opinion, deserve a lot more attention than they're getting.
It would be absurd to try and put blame on someone, because no one is at fault. The bottom line is that other categories have far more readers. We certainly can't make readers read stories they have no interest in, so how do we grow our readership?
Here is where my idea could come in...
I think us Orble tech junkies, or anyone interested in tech related issues for that matter, should look into having a private group where we can go log in and discuss trends, hot topics, industry news, etc. This group could also have a weekly digest of all the top posts from each members Orble blog.
What this would do is unite us tech bloggers around what's hot at the moment so we can attempt to create a "buzz" within Orble that will generate outside readership.
I'm not suggesting that Orble take this on, rather, I myself can have the whole system in place and ready to go pretty much at the snap of my fingertips if I can find a few other interested folks.
I'm ready to set it up and give it a spin if anyone else is interested in entertaining the idea. Jon, I'd love to have you peek in on it too if you have time. Just to see what we're up to.
Thoughts? Comments? Hate the idea?
Let me know.

Discussing trends probably won't help much, while you may be discussing trends someone else is posting it, and we all know the internet is unforgiving for the late birds
At the end of the day it's all in the google.

I must respectfully disagree. Buzz blogging is hot right now and places like Technorati, Digg, Reddit, Netscape, etc are just a few good examples.
Plus... it's giving me up to 10,000 visits a day across all of my blogs so I would very much beg to differ with your opinion.
mdeleon, I've got it all set up, but I'm stuck working on some issues with one of my political blogs. I should have that all cleared up by Monday so hopefully we can get this thing rolling by then.
So far there are four of us. I think that will be enough to get started.

Just on that other topic of snazzy writing, I've come to learn that there are so many websites and such that provide the same news over and over again without much difference at all. For me, as a gamer, I decided the best way to provide information is by writing it as an opinion column, not just another news site. I think it's working, although I'd obviously love a larger readership. But that, like everything, takes time.
