why on the list of new posts on http://blogs.orble.com are there numbers in brakets next to some of the posts? like postabc (1).

That is the number of comments for that post.

The idea is that you can see which posts are interesting by the number of comments they have generated.

Not sure how well it really works as by the time a number of comments go up (for most posts) it is off the bottom of the screen.

Do you like it/not like it?

Maybe we should list more posts on blogs.orble.com?

Other suggestions?

I think it's a good idea, but you're right they disappear too quickly. I think perhaps in addition to that it'd be interesting to have the number of times the post has been viewed/number of hits, maybe next to it. This might be a better indication? And would rack up quicker than comments.

Thats a good idea. It would take a little more work though as you would have to keep track of the number of hits each post has had in the database -- you can't retrieve such information from the traffic stats files each time as it would take too long.

Definitely something for the todo list.

I think the comments in the brackets are a great addition... that way, if something misses your eye, you'll see the comments piling up...
