Stats often wrong
March 20th 2008 02:35
I'm afraid my stats for moviemage are too often wrong, today my stats via URL were far in excess of the readers listed, putting me down in the movie ranks.
It's not the first time I have had this problem

There seems to be something up with the stats today, I'm looking into it.
If your Individual Readers and Link Readers number are wildly different, you should always be sceptical of the IR number as it's probably wrong, unless you have a large number of subscribers.
Unfortunately we cannot tell web-crawling robots from humans very easily which is why we give both numbers. If they are very different then most likely you are getting quite a few web crawler "readers".
It looks like one of the biggest badly behaved web crawlers (those that use different IP addresses) took a day off yesterday, which is very unusual.
If it happens too often I'll look at changing the ordering of the blogs to use Link Readers which is more stable. The downside of this is that it won't count the subscription/email/bookmark/t ypein readers which many blogs have.
Jon.

Sometimes they are OK so I gather it's an internal problem.
And of course when one is ranked it puts your favour down with others, I wouldn' t like to see you make a complete change tho, it could produce other problems, better to fix it if you can, especially as it does not happen every day.

Back to the Eighties
You have much more control and information that you can access at anytime with graphs and logs back to any day etc.
I've used it for several of my sites in the past, I couldn't do without it.
However, I have found that Orble matches up fairly well, especially on all over hits.
