Why are Adsense ads not relevant to the Post Topic?
June 27th 2007 08:52
Right from the time I started posting on Orble I have been facing this problem.
I write on varied topics like Astrology, Vastu, Feng Shui, Meditation, Reiki and AstroVastu. Over a period of time articles on Astrology have increased.
However, whenever I go to my default page www.indusguru.com I find astrology ads appearing and not on the topic I have written like Feng Shui or Vastu. Also when I go to an individual post, I find that the ads are of Astrology and not of Feng shui on which the post topic was based.
Is it because I am India and I am seeing ads only of advertisers who have targetted Indian readers and it so happens that in India no advertiser of Feng Shui products have put their ads in Google Adwords. (I find it plausible but not probable as in India too Google Adwords have caught up now).
The other reason can be that in the template I am using on http://www.indusguru.com the demarcation for Google for look for content to target ads is not limited to the current post content (in case of home page where many posts are visible) or to the actual content of the post (when individual post is viewed).
Jon and Jay - Please help me understand this and we need to find a solution to this for mutual benefit of Orble and writers.
Thanks

I have seen the sponsored ads on those topics when I do a Google Search. So definitely Google has something relevant on those topics.
The key words are there for the post and also in the content of the post. In any case there are no keywords on Astrology (the ads it shows) in the post.
I feel it is some other problem.

We already ask Google to ignore both menus and focus just on the content of the actual posts which should contain the most relevent keywords.
Google uses an algorithm which (as far as I can tell) takes into account:
The content of the post
The URL and HTML title of the page
The content on the rest of the domain (site)
The content on the rest of that adsense account (small weighting I think)
What kind of ads visitors have clicked on before.
As traffic picks up on your site Google should get better at choosing the ads.
For the moment I suggest using post titles which describe well what the post is about (which is looks like you are doing) and provide enough text with the right keywords in each post to give google enough hints to figure out the context.
Jon.

Thanks for the explaination. Please have a look at few of my posts and see where I am missing. As far as I can understand, I follow all the tips mentioned in your comment and still can't get there.

My experience has been that if you contribute patiently and consistently for 6-8 months, you will start seeing the adsense earnings grow gradually and steadily. For me the first Adclick came about 6 months after I started the blog and till that time had already put 75 posts.
The tips given by Jon in his comment above are important for everyone who is looking for adsense earning.
