In your blog settings, you can specify an Adsense ID to use.

I'm having the same problem as Brenton,

This is a NEW google thing with adsense which requires us to post their code somewhere on our site.

Don't get too excited, referrels don't really get you any extra money. At all. Nobody likes clicking on link after link to install firefox with google toolbar (odds are they already have elsewhere).

Ahmed,

This is a method where we get to choose our own ads if you've checked your Google lately.

This is going to take me a little while to implement. I'll get back to you as soon as it's working.

OK I've implemented a beta version.

Go to the settings page for your blog and scroll down to the Google Referral codes section.

You need to enter the google_cpa_choice string (the code) for each ad format you create a code for.

Once you've entered the codes you need to tell me so I can take a quick look and enable them. Then the appropriate ads should be displayed when your adsense ID is used (ie half the time).

Let me know if you find any bugs. It is definitely beta.

Cheers,
Jon.

Jon,

Are we talking about the same thing?

I select the format for each type of ad then I am just taken to the code which is the same as the code already there.

There seems to be only one place not multiple places. [on Orble]

Each time I go back part of what I've selected on google remains then the whole process just ends up where I started.

Can you give very specific instructions as to whether you're referring to Orble or Google.

It seems quite beyond me, and I don't think it is the referral system that I am talking about.

One has a choice of up to 15 in the carts if that gives you a better idea of what I am referring to.

You'll need to speak in plain English for me not computer talk.

I've heard of beta but I don't think that's the problem.

I don't know how you can check it for me.

katyzzz....I am not sure that Brenton and I are talking about the same things.

Hi Katyzzz,

The problem with Google Referrals is that they are quite complicated Much more so than regular Google ads.

I'll try to give a brief guide to using them with Orble.

Login to AdSense.

Click on the AdSense Setup Tab.

Click on Referrals.

In the Ad Shopping Trolley choose the 728x90 letterboard format.

Under Browse Items choose the products that you think would do well on your site. That means ads which you think people will click on. Also take note of the star rating given to each ad. The more stars the more likely you are to get paid for them. Remember that with these ads you only get paid if someone actually signs up or buys something. Just clicking on an ad is not enough. It looks like you can also ad entire categories to your cart. That may be a good idea.

You can also choose more than one ad to be included in your trolley, in fact I would recommend that you do so.

Once you have added all the ads or categories you require click on the Continue button.

Copy and Paste the code in the "Your AdSense Code" box into Notepad (not Word). You will need it later.

Repeat the above process for the 160x600 skyscraper and the 336x280 box formats making sure to cut and paste the code into NotePad each time, remembering which code section belongs to which format.

Now login to my.orble.com.

Click on the Settings link for the blog you want to add Referral Codes for.

Scroll down to the Referral Codes section. There will be 3 input boxes there for the 3 different ad formats you created referral codes for.

Extract the referral codes for each of the three formats (from the code you saved in NotePad) and paste them into the input boxes.

The referral code is the sequence of characters between the quotation marks for the google_cpa_choice variable. For instance with the example line below:

google_cpa_choice = "CAEaCFq5qjofFmd9UAQ";

the sequence CAEaCFq5qjofFmd9UAQ is the referral code that you need to put into the appropriate box on my.orble.com. You should be inputing a different code for each format.

You then need to click on the Change Settings button at the bottom of the page.

Then send me a PM (message) or leave a comment here and I'll do a brief check and activate the codes for you.

Then the ads you chose will be displayed whenever your AdSense ID is used -- ie half the time.

I realise that is all very complicated. Let me know how you get on.

Jon.

Thanks Jon, when I've completed that mammoth task I'll let you know how I got on.

That was a great explanation. I think I must have not used the right formats and then had the wrong place on Orble.

I'll need to try again when I have the time and the patience. Thanks.

Hey Jon,

I've done it for both my Hip Hop and Dancing blogs!

Stephen -- that's enabled for you, though you may want to add a few more ads/categories to your selection as not all the ad space is being filled. Remember that you will have to update the codes after you change your selection.

Trina -- That should be working on your dancing blog now.

Let me know how the new ads perform.

Jon.

I did a post on this on these forums but it has not been approved.

Basically, I see no refferal ads yet.

in relation to adsense referral implementation..

would that mean that

1. ads that would be displayed on my site would be a combination of pay-per-click and referral ads?
2. or is it at random, sometimes pay-per-click or sometimes referral ads?

thanks in advance,
jershey

Hi jon,

I was wondering if you could possibly disable the referrals feature for a week - my earnings have dropped roughly $5-$8 a day since referrals were implemented, meaning that I am down roughly $44 in comparison this month, compared to the same point over the past four months.

Traffic is down a little for me, but not by a major amount. I would be interested to see if these earnings go up if referrals were disbaled.

Thanks,

StephenP

Jon,

Are we allowed to use referral ads and regular Google Adsense ads?

The other day, I sent Admin a message, asking them to activate my 160 X 600 referral ads, because those were the only ones I wanted to use, planning to keep the other ads that were already on my page exactly as they were and simply wanting to add that particular size display of referral ads to the current Google Adsense mix. (I don't want banner ads, but like the less obtrusive Google links currently displayed along the top of my blog.)

Is it OK to use only one size referral ad display, along with my current Google Adsense ads, or do I need to use all three sizes in order to use referral ads on my blog? I'm a little confused about that. Haven't heard anything back from Admin yet.

Thanks for clearing this up!
Jeanne Dininni
Writer's Notes

P.S. I also asked Admin to put this wide referral ad tower into the right (Orble) sidebar, as well as to move my current Google Adsense tower from my left (Writer's Notes) sidebar to the right sidebar to help balance out the look and functionality of my blog. Since I've placed quite a few items into my left sidebar, including a long (and growing) list of links to helpful sites for writers, my left sidebar is currently much longer than my right sidebar.

Jershey -- That been activated for you. As far as I understand if you enable Referral ads then that is all that will be displayed. Which seems strange to me, you would think that Google would still just display the ads that make the most.

Stephen -- I've disabled the referral ads for you. Please do keep me informed on the results of your experimentation.

Jeanne -- You can activate just one format and I've done that for you.

At the moment it's not possible to move the adsense tower from the left bar to the right, sorry. It's on the list for me to have a look at. Also note that due to the number of features you have included in your menu, your blog is loading quite slowly. You may want to consider reducing the number slightly.

Regards,
Jon.

Hey jon,

Thanks for that - if it's any consolation, I have already earned more cash in the 1st hour and a half, than I did all day yesterday!

I will give it more time though, and let you know the outcome!

Thanks mate,

StephenP

Thanks, Jon!

I've noticed that my blog is loading more slowly since I put so many items into my sidebar, and in fact, I actually removed one item already. I hate to have to remove any more, but I guess I may just have to decide which one I can do without.

It's rather disappointing, though, because these additions make things so much more interesting--for both me and my readers!

Hi Jon,

Just thought I would let you know that my earnings have gone back to normal since disabling the referrals from my blog.

I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing for Orble, but from my point of view, them the facts!

Cheers,

StephenP

Thanks Stephen, I appreciate the info. It is a shame that it does not improve revenue but at least we know that now.

Cheers,
Jon.

I have entered my client id to the my adsense link here. but at adsense i am given a generated html code and i do not know where to put it at orble for my domain/regular blogs. do i need to put it somewhere, or is the client ID sufficient?
