Quote feature?
December 27th 2006 09:58
I was thinking it would be helpful to have like a quote feature to help show what we are quoting
Something simple, like a html table that holds quotes in them, kind of hard to explain but instead of:
"This is a quote"
it could be
-->Quote taken from *source
_______________________________________
This is a quote

I don't know how workable it could be but I think it would be a useful feature.

- Comic Sans font
- A strike-through feature
- A few more colours and fonts
- The ability to change the width of your blog column (the three columns don't completely fill up the page on most browsers)
- Smileys

I can't remember the tags on font and stuff, I'll be sure to find out how and get back to you here.

I'd also like to suggest a 'block user' function.

First you use the html tags [html3456*] [/html*] (without the *'s), in between those two you put:
<font face = "comic sans ms">Put text there</font>
So basically it should be:
[html3456*]<font face = "comic sans ms">Put text there</font>[/html*] (wtihout the *'s)
Ok, I'm testing it: Put text there

Happy New Year! All good ideas above and they'll be added to the list. Just a note:
- Comic Sans font
I've included all regularly supported fonts in the fonts list. Comic Sans Serif (and other fonts) are not supported on all platforms, hence their non-inclusion. I'm sure we can still add it though...
- A strike-through feature
This should be easy enough to add, I think...
- A few more colours and fonts
See above re fonts. Should be easy enough to add more colours - are there any particular RGB values you think are missing??
- The ability to change the width of your blog column (the three columns don't completely fill up the page on most browsers)
This will be doable using the new templating system I am working on. But remember - you should work to the worst case scenario. All Orble Blogs display correctly on 1024 x 768 resolution - you need to be sure that whatever changes you make appear correctly at this resolution or you risk losing readers...
- Smileys
Should be fairly easy
- Quote feature
I'll add some [QUOTE*] ... [/QUOTE] tags which will do this - I'll post here when this facility is available...
Cheers

Not to bug you but what effect will it have on existing blog posts? Will they carry over well?
Comment by Jay
Not sure what you mean by autostretch-ing?
Basically you'll be able to provide an HTML template and a CSS file and these will be used to format your Blog in place of the default themes. The topbar and bottombar will remain the same - you'll effectively control what goes on in-between.
We'll have to check for a few things (ie - whether you have included all the standard ad sections in your template) but it should basically give you control over the format of your entire Blog.
Note - this is advanced functionality and some bits and bobs (eg - Advanced Themes settings) will be disrupted. But I'll going to try and separate these off so it is not too confusing and also provide a template tagging system so these can be subbed in - eg - <!--{blog title}-->, <!--{blog url}-->, etc.
Existing Blogs will not be disrupted - you will be able to choose whether to use a Default Template or a Custom Blog Template, so existing Blogs will continue to use the former. You should be able to switch back and forth between the two systems without any hassle.
So this is what I am working on at the moment and I hope to have it finished fairly soon

I've added buttons to the toolbar so you can now use the
strikethroughtag and the quote tag:I hope they work as you expect.

Yay! Thank you, and thank you for the
strike-throughoption and the new format to come!I'll get back to you about colours very soon...
Any thoughts on the 'block user' function?
Comment by Jay
I believe the block user stuff is on the list, not far below the new formatting. I'll post something when it is done
