How do they actually work? Just wondering as I thought it was karma but I've got a post of 22 karma at the bottom and one of 24 unlisted... does it also go on views or comments or something?

I think its a combination of both, and the votes you get in a post are not karma

Hopefully someone else will step in and specify, but I'm sure the age of the post has something to do with it. Older posts decline in popularity, regardless of karma.

I imagine comments boost popularity as well. So, of two posts with the same vote rating, the one that scored its votes through comments will be the more popular.

Mmmm... the post from about 2 days ago for instance has way more votes and comments than any other and it isn't showing on the poular posts list so... I dunno.

The position on a post on the popular list is determined by the number of votes it has divided by its age in days.

When you vote for (or comment on) a post it's vote count increases by the amount of Karma you have -- but only for the first comment you make and of course you can only vote once.

I think mines gone a bit shonky.... Nmber 1 is still from september 10 and has 60 votes... the one from three days ago with 162 vots is nowhere to be seem.

Pinch and a punch for first of the month btw...
