ATTN: ORBLERS

June 11th 2007 08:04
Be cool.

Nobody likes to be criticized. Nobody likes to be shut down. Nobody likes to be attacked.

If you have a beef, PM somebody. Don't make it public.

If you have something to say don't be nasty and try not to be personal.

I've been attacked on Orble before, a few times. I've done some attacking on Orble (but i've attempted to make amends (if I'm incorrect, contact me, and I'll give it another shot.)) Everyone does. It's a human thing. However, there's a point where the nasty gets too big and scary. So we all need to give it a shot.

Finally - Don't feed the trolls. If somebody posts a post to get a rash reaction, it's going to encourage then to get hate comments. Look at that Maddox guy (not on Orble). The olny reason hes on the net is becasue people like to attack him.

Chill.

Breath.

Relax.

So - once more - the BIG PIOINTS

Don't be rash
Resolve conflict privately.
don't feed the trolls.

PLUR.

Ton.

Nicely put Brenton.

The usual rules of politeness are effective on the net as well as in real life.

You can criticize (if you have to) without getting personal.

ah yes, whatever happened to replying to the PM dearest?

Love how it goes public, though, controversy runs the interweb news peoples. Damn spelling though, so much controversy stems from it.

You said it!!!!! Isn't that why we're blogging??? So you disagree with someone! If we all thought alike there wouldn't be much use to have this community.

The fine art of argument is being lost to bickering.
Whatever happened to agreeing to disagree?

Trolls suck and they waste your time as you try to work out if they are genuine or not.

Orble is still young and I figure this rough housing is part of its formation. Sooner or later it will shift to to some kind of psuedo normality.

Damo, I assure you that a 'psuedo normality' is not a good thing for a big online community.

I expect world war 3.

On The Preponderance Of Piffle And Calumny.

Intelligent people robustly debate...
Morons spew forth mispelled irrelevant inanities...
Sadists vilify with insults...
Masochists crave negative attention...

...hmmm....seems it all fits together rather well for a 'normal' community does it not?...and maybe there is a little, of all of that, in all of us?

However....for your legal edification and for those unfamiliar with the terms 'libel' and 'calumny', check out the following...oh...and for those who still wish to defame....I hope you have a very big wallet....and have a nice day too...coz I know the plaintiffs will, after they sue your arse off!!!!....tee hee!!
libel:
n.
1. a. A false publication, as in writing, print, signs, or pictures, that damages a person's reputation.
b. The act of presenting such material to the public.
2. The written claims presented by a plaintiff in an action at admiralty law or to an ecclesiastical court.
tr.v. li·beled or li·belled, li·bel·ing or li·bel·ling, li·bels

calumny:
n. pl. cal·um·nies
1. A false statement maliciously made to injure another's reputation.
2. The utterance of maliciously false statements; slander.

In this, I whole heartedly agree. God help someone disagreeing with my physical self - my mouth works faster than my brain. Here however I have the oppurtunity to think, type, and be nice. Ive agreed to disagree plenty of times and its utterly magic. Ive also gone to war which I regretted and HEY guess what, now Im friends with that person.
Im all for conflicting views and religions and what else. The magic words are right there -
