Modify, Delete, & Other Links Not Appearing On My Blog!
June 5th 2007 17:24
Hi, Guys!
I've been having quite a bit of trouble lately with the links that allow me to control various functions on my blog simply not being there! Consequently, I am unable to delete comments from my blog unless they are my own. (It's as if the software thinks I'm just a reader and not the blog's moderator--despite the fact that my name and blog info appear in the Comments box.)
I and another Orble blogger have just transferred a set of comments over from my blog to hers (by copying and pasting), because they were unrelated to my blog post and were related to hers; and now I'm unable to delete her comments from my post!
I've had this problem for a while. More often than not, all the "buttons" that should appear along the top of my blog post (Modify, Theme, Setting, New Post), the Delete button that should appear at the end of each post, and the Modify and/or Delete buttons that should appear at the end of each comment on my blog are simply not there! In fact, it's extremely rare for them to be there.
Needless to say, this makes everything I need to do to my blog very inconvenient, since I need to go to My Orble for every little thing I want to do! And with the current problem (not having the Delete button under comments others leave on my blog), it makes it impossible!
Would you mind looking into this problem and seeing what you can do to make these links appear on my blog all the time? Also, can you remove all comments from my blog post, Not Published? No Problem! Try No-Record Press!
Thanks so much!
Jeanne

I've deleted those comments for you.
With regards to logging in, try deleting all your cookies (or at the very least those assoicated with orble.com, my.orble.com, and writersnotes.net) and then login again.
Also remember that after logging in on my.orble.com you may have to reload writersnotes.net in order to be logged in there also.
If you are still having problems after deleting your cookies let me know and I'll investigate futher.
Thanks,
Jon.

I've deleted all cookies/temporary internet files/ browsing history from my computer, and I'm still not getting any of the control "buttons" that should be appearing on my blog.
When I go to My.Orble.Com, the software recognizes me, giving me access to all my blogs, posts, etc., and the top of the screen says "Logout." But, after I click on the link to WritersNotes.Net (from within My.Orble.Com) and I'm taken to my blog, the top of the screen says "Login" and none of my control buttons are visible. If I click "Login" at this point, nothing happens, except that the blog reloads to the same screen (with no control buttons).
I've tried various ways of reloading WritersNotes.Net after either logging in or going to My.Orble.Com and finding that it considers me logged in already (e.g., clicking on either the Blog title, "View," or the name of individual blog posts [from within My.Orble.Com]; closing it and using my blog's bookmark; or even closing it and keying in the blog's URL. ) Nothing works! When my blog loads, the software doesn't recognize me as the blog's author.
Anything you can do to correct this problem would be very much appreciated!
Thanks!
Jeanne

I've just managed to replicate the behaviour here in the office so there is a problem. I'll try to solve it either this afternoon or over the weekend. It looks like sometimes IE is not allowing the cookie to be set.
Meanwhile I suggest you download and use firefox which you can get here. You will be able to login and firefox is much more secure and a much better browser than IE anyway.
I'll let you know when I've fixed the problem. Thanks for letting me know about it..
Regards,
Jon.

Hmmm...a new browser? Not sure I'm quite ready for that! You know, just got to thinking...don't think I've updated IE lately. Maybe I should try picking up the latest updates; perhaps that will solve the problem. It's worth a try, anyway!
Thanks again!

That's actually good news, since it still isn't working yet! (Just looking at the bright side!) Hope you enjoyed your weekend!
Thanks for filling me in!

I suspect this happens when the my.orble.com server is being a little slow. Basically when a blog page is loaded and someone is not logged in the browser sends a message to the my.orble.com server asking for login information. If this information is slow getting back and you try to reload the page before it does then the whole process has to start again which means it may never happen.
This is my theory anyway. I'll have another go tomorrow to see if the problem is happening then so I can investigate further.
Jon.
