languages and podcasting

November 20th 2006 12:49
hi orble world!

i just spent my first day interacting with this blog and getting to know my way around. i also completed my first entry! (it feels like i just planted a seed).

i've been looking around and can't seem to find the answers to a few questions -
-when we post, can we write in html or is it some other language?
-is there any way that we can turn this into a podcast?

i have come from the school of wordpress, and it is fairly easy to turn a multi media blog into a podcast. is this possible with orble?

either way i'm having fun writting this blog and it seems as though this crew of blogers are good value!

any comments or thoughts?

1. The language is Orble-specific XML, mainly the fact that it uses brackets "[" rather than the regular HTML "<". Most regular tags - bold, italics, alignment etc - are the same code, just use the bracket instead. If you want to insert html code, such as embedding a Youtube video, you have the place and around the code for it to be functional. In my understanding, all this is a safeguard against spamming, and also to help the less computer technical from starting up easier, without having to learn a language like HTML.

2. Jon has mentioned the possibility of podcasting in the past, but as yet no such feature has been finalised. If you really want to take the initiative, you can always do the work, upload it onto a server, and then embed it into your posts using this code (with the [HTML3456] tag of course):

<embed src= "http://www.odeo.com/flash/audio_player_standard_gray.swf" quality="high" width="300" height="52" allowScriptAccess="always" wmode="transparent" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" flashvars= "valid_sample_rate=true&external_url=[PUT MP3 SITE HERE]" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" /></embed>

Great answer Jimbo -- thanks.

We do intend to do native podcasts at some point.

Podcasting *coughs*... right, that would be... erm... 'good'.

Watch out with using tabes under the html tags, it goes out of alignment by leaving a massive gap between body text and the table itself but it looks fine when looking at a post specifically.

you could always upload your mp3 files to ourmedia.org for free. I've made an intro for an "audioblog" or podcast and should be recording one soon.
