Karma, Hits, Readers, Link Readers and Ranking - Still Confused

I know questions have been asked on these before but I am still not totally confident I really understand what all these statistics mean. For instance, I know the ranking means how you rank against others but how do I find out how the others are ranking.
For all of the new bloggers and the relatively new bloggers would cibby like to do a post on her blog that would explain in very simple language for us the differences say between readers and link readers and what they mean in terms of ranking. After going through the posts I get a general feel for it but not a complete understanding of it.

The rank is determined (in the email stats) by the number of individual readers in comparison to the other blogs.
We display the top 100 ranked blogs, however the list would be too long to display the rest.
