Google Adsense Setup

November 29th 2007 00:47
I need advice on Google Adsense Setup.

I added my adsense id ok.

My problem is i am getting an optimization report from adsense saying:

"Dear Publisher,

Here is your optimization report for the month of ....... After an automatic review of your sites, we think you might be able to improve your monetization using the following tips:
Adsense for Search adds both functionality and revenue to your site.
You are not currently using Adsense for Search on your sites.
... ...
Referrals can add incremental revenue to your site.
You are not currently using Referrals on your sites.
... ...
We hope these tips are helpful, and encourage you to experiment using different layouts and formats--no two sites monetize the same way!"

Am i supposed to be going through the whole set up process and adding 'Adsense for Content', 'Adsense for Search', Referrals', 'Adsense for Mobile' ??

Cos according to Orble i just have to enter my adsense id and thats it.

I have hundreds of 'page impressions' and nothing else!

It's like the whole thing isnt even set up and i have no idea what to do...

Please someone.. help me set it up!!!!!!

It's just Google trying to flog more products. We have tested all of these and at the moment they are not worth the space they take up on the page. If that changes I will definitely let everyone know.

OK.. So, what is it exactly that I should be observing on my Orble Daily reports that indicates where any earnings should be coming from?

I have hundreds of 'page impressions' according to Google. And people are clicking on links within my site. Yet no earnings have been made.

Am I the only person who doesn't know what you are all talking about here?

What are "page impressions'? I have never seen anything as such, although my site does no tattract much attention, I wonder now whether it has been set up correctly, and whether I should be getting reports about my site's 'earnings'? Or is my traffic so low it doesn't even register on the horizon, so I don;t get any report?

Page Impressions are something shown on Google Adsense, and I have no idea what they are either! haha..

It can all be a little confusing. I'll be revamping the blogging tips and FAQ soon and this is a common question so I'll put a detailed answer in there but for the moment:

Page impressions are the number of pages viewed on which Google has shown ads using your Client ID on your blog.

If anyone clicks on any of these ads revenue will show up in your Google AdSense account.

Google Pages Views and Clicks are different to Orble hits and Link Readers. Orble hits include all hits to your blog and may include things like web robots which will not show up in your Google Page Views. Link Readers is the closest thing you will find to Google's Page Views.

Link Readers should roughly equal Google Page Views x 2 however for a number of reasons they may be slightly off.

Link Readers are not the same as Clicks in your Google AdSense account. A link reader is counted when someone clicks on any link on your blog. Google clicks are counted whenever someone clicks on an ad.

This page has more information on Orble's traffic reports.

To get an idea of how your blog measures up:

The average Google click-through rate for blogs is around 5%.

The average eCPM (revenue per 1000 page views) is around $6.00 USD.

Both these measure vary quite a lot between blogs and also depend heavily on your traffic source. Readers who arrive at your blog from the Search Engines are much more likely (around ten times) to click on an advert than regular readers.

To see how many readers you can expect on an Orble blog over time see this post. To get more search engine traffic see this post. In fact read everything on the BlogAdviser Blog and you will be on your way.

Please let me know if you have any questions, no matter how silly you think they may be. Just about everyone finds all this confusing to start with.

just to add to what Jon wrote:

The Orble traffic report has nothing to do with money. It only shows the performance of your blog in terms of how many people are visiting your site.

I was wondering something similar for about my first two months here. I had page imps but no cash! Now that I have BOTH, I am not worrying that things are wrongly set up! I think it just takes time to earn the cents as well as page clicks...

Good to read these posts. I only started today and have been trying to paste code but then realised that I didn't have to!
