Firefox 2.0

October 27th 2006 05:42
Hola,

I've just downloaded Firefox 2.0, and it's sleek, slick and sexy.

If you're tired of stinky ol' Internet Explorer, with its viruses and pop-ups, now is a good time to switch to Firefox.

Added relevance to Orble bloggers: Firefox automatically spell checks in the blog post editor!

Though it has the bastardized spelling from the land known as U,S and A: behavior? No - behaviour!

Been using firefox 2.0 for 2 or 3 weeks now and love, love, love it. The other day, I switched back to IE, just to see the difference. The switch didn't last too long.

I've used Firefox for a couple of years now - I loathe Internet Explorer! I have wasted so many hours trying to create hacks to rectify bugs in IE.

I didn't know Firefox 2.0 was out though - I'll have a look!

Firefox is great. I have had no problems with it for the few years I have used it. It closes out neatly, too, which is a big plus for my tiny, antiquated laptop.

I still have problems with memory leaks and other bugs, but the user experience is great...

Shhh Cibby... Don't tell any readers. Doesn't Firefox block all the Google ads? It seems to for me.

I've just got Firefox 2.0 fairly recently, having been a regular Firefox 1.X user for a couple of years. Does anyone else find it really annoying that they've moved the close tab button onto the individual tabs rather than having one button at the top right of the screen to close the current tab? They've replaced that button with a drop-down list of all the tabs you have open - I don't find this nearly so easy to use...

yes I find it annoying Jay

You know you can actually turn off tabs by clicking on them with the middle mouse button? Now thats cool.

You can create new tabs by <ctrl> t and you can move between tabs with <ctrl> <tab>

I found all that just cos I'm 1337, I actually guessed them all.

Thanks Ahmed - I knew about the <ctrl> <t> and <ctrl> <tab> stuff but the middle button thing is new - though it doesn't work for me, guess my mouse is setup wrong?

You can switch back a tab using <ctrl> <shift> <tab>, but that's a bit of a mouthful I prefer to switch tabs using <ctrl> <pgup> and <ctrl> <pgdn> - which is less intuitive but somehow makes more sense to my fingers...

the middle mouse button doesn't close tabs for you? ouch, it does for me.

ALso if you cilck on a link with the middle mouse button it opens the link ina new tab, I use it for google searches especially.

You might want to get your middle mouse button checked up, I duno how I'd live without mine...

You can get the click-to-tab functionality you talk about by pressing <ctrl> when you left-click as well. In fact - let me test something...

...no, left-clicking on a tab while pressing <ctrl> doesn't close it. I thought it might, given the associated behaviour of the middle-button with <ctrl> and left-button. Ho-hum - I'm off to get my middle button fixed

you do that

the <ctrl> left mouse button does work with opening a link in a new tab, but I just tried it myself on another tab to close it, didnt do much.

Maybe its something you can change from the options?

I downloaded this the other day, and I'm loving it. The moving of the close tabs thing takes a bit of getting used to, but I use <ctrl><w> to close them a lot of the time so it really doesn't matter too much. The spell checker is great too - I've made sure mine is set to Australian English!

One thing I've noticed, which I'm not sure if it's a firefox thing or orble thing, is that often when I click on something like the preview post button, I automatically go back up to the top of the page, and I have to press the button again to actually get it to work. Has anybody else noticed this?

Hmmm - hadn't noticed that. I'll look into it...
