Fields in Post Form

May 31st 2008 03:33
I'm more than a little confused about the fields in the post form and cannot find a comprehensive guide. Here are my questions. I'm viewing the post form in a separate window, and I'll cover them top to bottom.

1) The first field has no name, just indicates "(required)". What is this?

(several are clearly understood)

2) Post Category: I know the modify screen allows me to maintain categories, but there appears no way to add one at the last minute here. Is that correct? Most blog software allows you to type whatever you want and if it's not already a category it creates a new one.

3) Tags (keywords): What is this and how does it differ from category? Where are they displayed? Is there a list of tags used on a blog?

4) UNKNOWN! The blog tip about "Special Posts" makes reference to "the short title". Is this another field? Where can it be found?

Thanks for the pointers,
Opher

hi Opher

1) i think the first field you are talking about is the "Post Title" where you just write the name of the post

2) as far as im aware i think you have to create the categories prior to entering the post form

3) "Tags" are words the search engines will pick up that indicate the topics covered in your post content, you pick eight of the most frequently used words or key words that would help someone locate your post

4) the "Short Title" field is under "Tags", "Catergory", and "Time" fields, and just above "Spotlight Post" field

Hi Morgan - Well, the field I was referring to in (1) was above the Post Title field, I didn't make that clear.

However, today that field is gone. Hmmm, was the template updated overnight?

Also, the Short Title field is now on the form.

You know, overnight Charles moved me from an Orble domain to my own. I wonder if the system uses different templates and the "old" one is still used when using a generic Orble blog.

Can anyone compare the two?

Thanks again,
Opher

Opher, the short title is a useful tool:

The Title at the top of the POST page is the title that will be displayed on the top of your post, and on the other Orble pages.

The Short title is the name of the address that the post will be archived under.

This is an extremely useful way to have one title, perhaps an interesting one, to draw curious eyes, but use another title for search engine keywords.
