End of year party?

September 19th 2006 00:41
Just a thought -- maybe it'd be fun to organize an end of year meet for Orble-type people and hangers on.

I'm thinking, probably in Sydney, and probably something basic like hiring a room at a pub.

Anyone interested?

Any ideas?

I'm happy to put up my hand to be on the organizing committee, or organize the thing myself.

I'll watch this thread over the next few months and see how many people (if any) are interested and what ideas (if any) develop.

I think that's a super idea.

It would be great to meet all the people whose posts I have been reading for the last 6 months

I don't think this forum is read very often, though...

I could put a post in Orble news -- or make posts from this forum appear on the Orble home page.

Any other suggestions for making the writer's forum more prominent? I could put a link in the top bar when people are logged in..

that's a great idea - a sidebar with the latest posts from the writers forum AND orble news...

Incidentally, some additional ideas for a get together might be:

-- a cruise
-- Skirmish/Paintball/Zone 3/hiring out an arcade
-- karaoke
-- roller skating/ice skating/tenpin bowling
-- an orgy party.

those are all good ideas, Adrian, but you risk polarizing a get-together... plus the organization... too much! Maybe we should just have a simple meet-and-greet at a pub or something?

Hi Guys,
I like this idea. Would be alot of fun and help to connect everyone. Love the pub solution for a place. Can't think of too many people who wouldn't feel comfortable with that. Maybe we should start throwing some dates around so people can get organised. End of year can be pretty hectic with Christmas parties and all.

Hi guys

It's a really nice idea...I'd be up for absolutely anything (except an orgy party haha)...unfortunately I'm only available for a few days between when I finish exams and when I go overseas...sorry to be a pain...plan it without me and I'll do my best to make it!

One possible problem with the pub thing is that no under-18s could attend... Are there many under-18 writers here?

Great idea, a lounge would be good too because it's not as noisy as a pub and has lots of comfy sofas. Places like the Slip Inn, or even Statement Lounge Bar under the State Theatre.

Well I'm slightly over 18, but I also don't live in Sydney

I don't think there are any under 18's, I wouldn't be surprised if I was one of the younger ones on orble. I think only 'alwayseighteen' is younger than me actually.

great idea, I'm also up for anything except the orgy party. I can't wait to meet everyone! How bout we meet in the city somewhere so it's middle ground for people like Luke who live way way out west

Opera Bar is always good cuz it's outdoors and they never don't let anyone in and under 18's can go there too ...

I'd like to see some pictures of a drunken Adrian and Cibbuano together singing pints in hands...

Or just pictures of the whole thing, I think the best person to do that would be the person who blogs about photography, if that person will be attending of course.

I couldn't make it to Australia... There wouldn't be any support for the proposal of everyone going to New York City instead, would there?

I don't think so

Unless, of course, you pay for airfares and hotel rooms which will be bloody awesome! If not impossible...

You can wear a nametag if you like Cibby

We should probably decide on a date for this party. Everyone's calendar fills up quickly at this time of year.

I'm turning 30 on the 28th of October and we are having a house party/BBQ in Paddington -- you are all more than welcome to that. It's a pretty big place so there is lots of room. In fact if that suits we could make it the Orble Party as well -- a big crowd is a good crowd

Like Legally Brunnette said -- it would be great to meet everyone!

that sounds good - make the Orble party coincide with Jon's 30th.

Won't 30 candles set off the smoke alarm Jon? Should we let the fire dept know ahead of time?

Can we find a cake that can support the weight of 30 candles?

etc, etc...

I'd love to come for sure. It would depend on the date and all that jazz though.

Sounds great Jon, and I'd love to drop in and say Happy Birthday, but I just have to ask this. Is there anybody out there just wee bit older than 30? I don't really consider myself old, but you're all sounding really young to me!

Ahmed,

Only someone under 21 would say they're 'closer' to an older age. Ha!

Umm, what do you mean?

Is there something special about being 21 that only people who are 21 and above know about... hmm, I have always wondered if people a certain age are telepathic...

Most of you seem to be of my kids generation, but no matter, I still like a party, and love socializing with young groups. Just say where and when. Is it OK if I bring my husband. He likes a party too.

I'm turning 21 on October 30.

This idea is a good one. Hopefully it will work out. Are the details going to be posted on the next newsletter?

Ahmed... definitely, when I turned 21 it was like I was finally allowed entry to the StoneMasons or something. The whole world became a different place for me. I'd tell you more about it but, well... wait until you're 21.

Yeah, it was great to meet Cibby, Jon, Sisi, Shani... Hopefully I didn't piss them off too much with Orble talk.

But where did all the other Orblefolk go? We definitely need to advertise the next one better...
