E-mail Notification Titles
December 14th 2006 11:26
Gudday!
I am making some changes to the notifications structure, since there have been a few complaints about receiving too many notifications. I thought I might as well change the notification titles at the same time - I have been considering changing these for a while, mostly because they mess up the threads in my inbox, but also because Adrian has asked me to
Currently, if you have an e-mail subscription to a Blog you receive e-mails like:
Writer's Forum Subscription - New POST
And if you created a post or have commented on a post subsequent comment notifications look something like:
Writer's Forum - New COMMENT
So, I'm considering including the post title in the e-mail as follows:
Writer's Forum - My Post Title Will Go Here
Hence, all e-mail notifications (for a specific post) should appear in the same thread. However, I just wanted to check whether people find the New POST and New COMMENT bits helpful? In which case we could have:
Writer's Forum - New POST - My Post Title Will Go Here
Writer's Forum - New COMMENT - My Post Title Will Go Here
This would separate the e-mails (for a specific post) into two threads - one for the initial notification that a post has been created and one for all subsequent comments.
What do people think? Does anyone actually care? Or is it just the pedantic types like me who find this kind of detail annoying? Having said that I'm not really sure which form I prefer myself, hence why I am canvassing opinion!
Thanks
Jay

Thanks for your comments! I have included the POST title as I suggested and the new notifications (which you can turn on or off per thread) should be up and running. Please let me know if you have any problems.
Jimbo: Nice idea re including the message content. I'll talk to Jon about it...
