There seems to be something wrong with my stats

September 24th 2007 00:08
This is not the first time I've noticed this, it has been bothering me for a while.

It used to be that my google stats were approx 1/4 of my Orble readers.

Yesterday I had 179 google readers which would translate to approx. 720 orble readers for ms paint but it came to about 436, it has been striking me for a while that my google stats are increasing and Orble staying much the same.

What is causing this?

Do you keep changing the system. There's not much point in seeing increases on google and nothing on orble. Isn't that true? and surely this too affects one's earnings. It seems that in other than the highest earners, the ads are just spread around, often randomly.

Once again, am I right or wrong?

And the other day when we were sent double advices, in the second my readers went down.

I can't see around corners or behind closed doors but I can see what is in front of me.

I don't believe in making a fuss about small things (like my earnings) but there do seem to be a few problems and if increases with google don't result in increases with readers on Orble the effort seems pretty pointless.

And, yes, I do understand the difference between hits and readers.

What I need to know is the disparity that is occurring between increases with google not reflecting similar proportionate increases with Orble and as you know google does not give much away.

Google readers (which are readers being referred to your site through the Google search engine) are mostly independent of the number of readers from Orble or any other source.

There will be some increase in Orble readers because of more traffic coming from other domain blogs as their Google traffic also increases, however the change will not be as large as the increase in Google traffic to your blog alone.

The fact that the proportion for your site in the past has been around 1/4 is purely coincidental. Other domain sites have different ratios and they change all the time, mostly because of the volatility of Google traffic.

You should be happy that the number of your Google readers has gone up

A large number of our blogs are reaching the 1 year-old stage which means they will be getting many more Google readers, especially if they have been active for the entire period.

I'm surprised that your readers went down in the second duplicate email you were sent. If anything it should have been the other way around. That particular problem was a one off though and should not happen again at least until I have to change over servers.

Could you give me a little more information on what you mean by the ads being "spread around randomly" and I may be able to give you an answer on that particular question.

Regards,
Jon.

Spread around, by that I meant allocated to all posts in either a random or a particular way, as ads are not always present, here I am referring to picture ads which I take to be the most profitable.

The fact that my stats have improved has been brought about by my proactive approach in actively seeking links, but it seems if I don't keep that up, and I can't see that I have sufficient time to do that, my stats will fall again.

Which suggests to me I should at some stage give up or maintain a very simple profile just to keep the blog going.

If I want to make even a reasonable return from what I am doing it seems I ought to go down a different route: most express that they like my pics, but I am not here just to promote my own art.

I am just trying to firstly, measure and secondly, assess my prospects.

I hope this is a little clearer to you, it's an efficiency thing I am considering as I do not like to waste my time. I feel once a year has gone by with the amount of posts I've done, it will be time to give altruism a miss.

I have no need to blog other than to serve some useful purpose and it seems I could choose some area which would not be so time consuming, if I felt the need or perceived a suitable return, but it would still need to fit within my personality/temperament and from your point of view you shouldn't be overly concerned with that.

But I did feel a need to get the stats thing worked out. I am not here to establish myself as a writer or some such thing, I just don't feel the need, and it has become a very time expensive hobby.

But, I repeat, I did feel a need to get the stats thing sorted out before deciding on any other steps, I shall probably be around until my first google payout which still has some way to go.

katyzzz...minimalist reply will do, but as this is in the public arena I thought I needed to adequately express my view, what others decide to do is entirely up to them and their own needs.
