New Feature? 'Who voted' details?

December 17th 2006 03:31
I don't know how workable it is but I think it would be cool if we could see who voted on our posts, sometimes they don't post, just vote.

I think it would be nice, nothing too outstanding (please don't push the CSS support down the todo list to get this done), so yeah.

Anyone agree?

Its not right to see who voted. It will not only create partiality but agony "they oh ashish doesnt vote on my bog"..for an example.

Gah, people need to grow some backbone around here, lots of news story sites have this feature, digg.com being one of the bigger ones.

H Ahmed,

seen you about... even voted on your blog a couple of times... but, never chatted... now's a good time...

I LOVE THIS IDEA... YAH!!! I think it will put paid a whole stack of whinging and lessen the thought that there are some "groups" here that always just hang out in clicks and NEVER ENCOURAGE new talent... etc... etc... et - ad - infinitum - cetera...

How would you suggest it appear on your post... in between the written comments perhaps would be best, do you think?

I truly believe that seeing the truth will be a revalation for many....

Lilla...

PS if we ever find Ash, the party from Tracy's is on tonight at Ash's if you get lonely...

Well something in the way of a link that takes you to a page would be good enough I think...

I don't really care about the whole group thing, I don't even know why people are complaining, but if it might cause troubles like that maybe the votes thing should be made private to the blog owner.

Wait, why do people care about micro communities in orble? I mean I read tech blogs on orble cos it's relevant to me, am I meant to start reading blogs I have 0 interest in suddenly?

Don't know Ahmed... human nature perhaps... I am lucky, I have so many interests I could never be bored in orble... or anywhere...

I'd love to see the invisible votes on my site and I really don't think most people would care who else saw them either, would they? I think I meant the opposite to the way it sounded...

I hope it becomes a virtual reality one day Ahmed...

cheers,
Lilla

Actually I'd prefer it didn't exist.

Voting is to know somebody likes you... I just know the pettiness this thing would bring up. Also, I want to lend support to somebodies work, not to let them know, hey I'm so good I voted for you.

I dunno, if the feature is going to be held back becuase people on Orble would find new ways to argue over it then it would be just sad I guess...

Hi Brenton,

I guess when you put it that way... having waved your magical wand of clarity [which i admire, I might add] ... I'm chnaging my mind. You are right, I forget about pettiness and the horror of it's face...anywhere, not just here... yes, best left the way it is, although you know, they were not my reasons for thinking it okay... mine is always an intention of curiosity only... no hidden agenda's on who and how or anything like that... is that how it read...? Sheesh... better stop on the wine I think, maybe I'm too tired after all...

Lilla...

Yes Ahmed, it would sadden me too... lots of things 'in here' do already... but then we can start to argue that you shouldn't have this feature, or that feature... no more liberty and we have a mocrocism of the macriotic world we escape from to come here in the first place *lol*

I think Cibbuano once said to the Envirowarrior - we are doomed! *?*

I like the idea of all voters being noted in your daily stats email, as you may have no idea that someone is reading your and appreciating it enough to vote without necessarily leaving a comment. I don't think we should avoid it just because people may find ways to feel offended. I think it's great to have as much information as possible, and what you do with it is up to you. )

Honestly as communities grow this happens, so it isnt unexpected, I'm just somewhat upset I happened to come on three weeks before the community 'came of age' (so to speak)...

But yeah, there should only be one thing that keeps new features from orble: Time (I would say laziness but that would mean I'm the biggest hypocrite to have ever walked the earth)...
