Critical reading
August 28th 2007 03:26
Is it a good idea to have the facility on your blog to change the rating system to encourage a more critical readership?
Maybe have ten categories with which to rate a post from one to ten.
(Like they mark figure skating - a technical score and a score for frills.)
With the added extra facility to add - spelling, grammatical and punctuation errors in your comment.
I'd find it beneficial to know if others thought i'd mucked up and where, and help others to do the same.
We could have the ten categories with which to rank the post along the lines of , information, creativity, lively writing, overall value...others...
Not sure exactly but something.
Anyway.
Thanks for the forum.

With the karma system, when you vote for someone else's post, do they get points equal to their karma level or your own? Because whenever I vote, the number of points added always seems to be the same as my karma. But it should be the other way around shouldn't it?
Your karma score is made up of how much you support/vote/comment on other blogs, (yes?) so if someone votes for you, you should get points equal to your karma... therefore what goes around comes around.
Otherwise someone who doesn't support other people at all could still get 10 points in one vote if someone who DOES make the effort to support others gives them that vote. I might be wrong, but it seems at the moment the only time you get your own karma back is when you make a new post?
Just making sure I don't have the wrong end of the stick.

5 laughing faces for humour
2 skulls for seriousness
3 quills for literary merit
4 brains for info
more - not sure
if this at all - has to be balanced -
giving a post ten just because I make a comment seems arbitrary - just me - maybe - who knows -not me

I take your point though. Perhaps we could have the number of votes equal to the higher of the writers karma and the commenter/voter.
