Transfer Existing Posts to New Categories

How do I transfer my existing posts to categories I have newly created?

I've read through a few posts and can not seem to find my answer.

If we can't (which it's seems we can't) all ready do this I think it would be a great idea to be able to incorporate it into our user tools.

I don't want to lose my existing votes etc otherwise I'd just copy and paste it as a new one.

Please help..

Hi Dea,

You can do this by Modifying your old posts. Click on the Modify link and you can change which categories a given post belongs to.

Let me know if you have any problems

Ha ha.. I'm an idiot! Ok, I got half of it done!

My problem however now lies with the transfer of a say Blog A posts to Blog B categories. That I can't do. That is what my questions should of been. So I shall rephrase:

How do we transfer a post from one blog to a different blogs category?

It would be great if this were possible in our user tools/options.

So you want to have one post on two different blogs -- or do you want to transfer a post between two blogs -- or you just want a post from one blog to be listed in another blog's category?

I want to transfer the posts from one blog to another so I can permanently remove the original blog. I just want to concentrate on my one blog.

This may seem crazy, but where is the category menu supposed to appear when you click on modify? I just created some categories and I don't see where that happens so that I can put the posts into the categories.

The category box should appear underneath the Content box. If it's not there let me know and I'll have a look to see what's wrong.

Ok, I thought that's where it should be but there's nothing there. I only have link, post signature, mature content, and notify me of replies underneath.

(Beneath that stuff is the tags, channel, time, short title, spotlight post, and post type). But no category thing.

OK, it's all fixed. You had deleted the root Category -- not that obvious I know but we did it like this to keep the system flexible.

Let me know if it gives you any more problems.

Click on the Modify link for your blog, then scroll down to the categories section and click on the link to go to the category management page. Let me know if you have any problems. You need to leave the root category in place and create any new categories as children.
