Blocking

December 17th 2006 18:02
Is it a possibility to add the option to block certain users from posting comments on our blogs?

I don't want to have to verify every comment. We should have the ability to prevent problem commenters from spewing their verbal vomit on our sites.

Is anyone else having this problem?

Hahahaha... a little... got a massive hsate filled post sent anonomously. I'm afraid blocking would just lead to more of that kind of thing, however.

Brenton,
I don't think it would encourage that. I think it would eventually drive out people who do things like that. It would at least give bloggers some control over what is posted in their absence, don't you think?

I can see where you're coming from, I just fear it will result in more anonomous attacks, and 'omg u bloked me' pettiness.

But again, I don't decide all this, I'd just be a little concerned. In essence, it's quite possibly a good idea.

yeah, but right now people delete my posts when they don't like what I write

getting blocked will take care of that, and I wont lose precious time posting tuff to bloggers who don't want to read...

Ahmed,
Yeah, I have deleted one of yours...it didn't contribute to the 'moment'. Nothing personal. Your other comments have been left...and were great, btw.

Actually, I am not talking about blocking people upfront or anything like that. I am talking about people who post inappropriate things in relation to the post on a habitual basis. It is distracting to the post and discussion. Also, there is one, in particular, that I no longer want to have their feedback. I have told them so in no uncertain terms. However, I am not going to be around much starting tomorrow. I want some control over what is posted in my absence. I suppose for now, I may have to use the dreaded verification process.

I tried posting some tuff once, and got fined by the post office.

Looking at Vioced arguement, I'd have to say, I'm leaning towards blocking being a good thing... although, I tried to comment on Mind Orgasms today and they've changed something so i don't have permsiions to make posts.

So i think maybe it's possible already, dunno.

Brenton,
I think it's a good idea and for those that would be elitist and overuse it, well, they would face the consequences of that action. People would simply stop reading their work.

For those of us that would use it as it would be intended, it would work to prevent problems like that. I know of several other forums, etc. where you can be blocked if you abuse the system.

What is the going rate for tuff these days? *smile*

I wasn't actually referring to deleting comments that wre not inline with mood, I was referring to comments being deleted simply becuase I (orbles resident grumpy old man) did the posts.

Everyones entitled to moderating their own blogs.

I don't think this is necessarily a bad idea.

There seems to be a lot of negativity around Orble this morning - did everyone have a heavy night last night??

All the negative comments I've gotten on blogs have been from anonymous posters, so I don't think blocking is really going to stop anyone.

True. And you can always delete comments you don't think relevant to the content of the post. I still think this is a worthwhile addition, but one that isn't a priority

You can block anonymous people from posting to your blogs. You can't do it for people who are a problem.

I think it would be a good feature to have even if it just encouraged people to post anonymously. I'll put it on the list.

Thank you, Jon. I really don't think that it would encourage people to post anonymously. I will be changing my features to not allow anonymous posts on my blogs. All bases covered.

Hope you have a great Holiday,
Voices~
