Blank grey space

November 21st 2006 03:40
Was just wondering if there are any plans in the future to make use of the blank grey space on the left and right hand sides of the respective blog pages

Just seems like a waste of space that could be put to use

Anyways, just my opinion

Cheers

Jon has mentioned the possibility of background images in the future, though I'm not sure if this is for the blog itself, or for the whole page. On lower resolutions - 800x600 etc - there is actually no grey space - the blog takes up the whole thing. Then again, I run 1600x1200 so I wanna see the extra space used as well.

Hah no. It's pretty stupid really - I'm on a 19" CRT and everyone else who uses it thinks its horrible to look at, but I actually quite like it. I'm going to be hopefully investing in a 24" or 30" widescreen LCD soon so then those sort of resolutions will be a little more reasonable.

30"!?! Why don't you just sit closer to the screen?

The problem is I'm a video editor, so I need alot of screen space to effectively do it. It's pretty hard seeing what you're doing when the preview window is so small. 30" would be ideal, but I only foresee my budget affording me the 24", if that.

Video editor?? Sounds like a cool job! Go for the 30", you know you wanna!? You can claim 30% back as tax...

I need a decent workstation first - working on a 3 year old PC just doesn't cut it with video editing. All things in due time... Getting a proper job is my main concern at the moment - once I have a steady inflow of cash, I can actually get into video editing seriously, which is what I want to do.

Well I'd suggest throwing in an autostretch column on the body of the post but I think that would cause a lot of formatting head ache's.

Anyway, on the 1600&1200 note, I used to use that (still do) for 3D modelling, but I find 1280*1024 to be the best for everything else without straining my eyes.

You should look into getting a videocard that can output to two monitors simultaneously to increase workspace Jimbo

My video card can do it at the moment, but I don't have the money for monitors.
