Asset management
May 26th 2008 01:05
Jon, when I am trying to upload a post, the assets of Orble are taxed and resources are used that may not need to be. There is a free program called ScribFire that can allow a fully formatted post to be worked out and uploaded in less time and with less resources than what the system takes now.
Can the word processing software of Orble be expanded or modified to allow the use of another program like ScribeFire to fully work out a post before it's uploaded? That way photos and formating issues can be resolved faster. I've noted some pretty long pauses while trying to post lately. This may help.

I'm always keeping an eye on the server load. Is there a particular time of day that seems to be slow?
Fog -- as Cibby says, Dial up is always going to be slow. Not much we can do about it from our end.

The only thing I could come up with for now was to upload fully formatted and tweaked posts; that would take pressure off of your servers. Reducing upload time from my end would help, it's the photo tweaking that eats the time up.

yes I did notice that banners were loading much faster a few days ago, they are slow again right now however, so must have been related to overall low demand on the sever, I suppose.
As for dial up, yes I am all too aware it is slow, of course, however, there have been some sites I have noticed that must have found a way for the info to download more quickly.
What I thought of actually, which was a DODO idea (my server), certain aspects of a site are already downloaded in a file on one's computer, then when you accessed that site, most of the standard appearance was already loaded, (like banners etc) with only new content to down load.
I admit I could be talking out of my head here, but it was a specific system to allow dial up to run faster, and it did work actually.

P.S. However, my connection worries will end when I win lotto this week...
