Video units - worth the trouble?

August 12th 2008 02:31
Hey, Jon, what gives with the youtube 'video units'? They get a good response but so far I've earned 6 cents, my 'earnings' continue to plummet, such that $1.30 is now a good day, a good day used to yield almost $8, I thought the video units might help and perhaps indirectly they have a bit, but a fall of almost 80% in 3 months seems a bit hard to take.

I guess you can't read Google's mind but neither can I.

If I were you, I'd be as seriously worried as I am.

Google MUST be redistributing its money elsewhere as without that income their bottom line would be heading down too, which clearly it is not.

Unless, of course, those executives who left know something which we don't.

Of course it might be just me, but just me includes several blogs, as you know. This suggests that it is not JUST ME.

Hi Katyzzz, AdSense earnings per 1000 page views across all the Orble blogs have remained quite constant over the last 4 or 5 months.

Have a look at your blog stats -- where is most of your traffic coming from?

I'll have a look at the stats but I find it hard to agree that that is the problem.

Incidentally you have made no comment on the video units, I'd value your opinion, as may others.

I've heard that the video units are not worth the extra space they take up. If anyone has heard different or has any concrete stats I'd be interested. As any Google product you need to give them time to mature and build up a decent inventory.

Jon, there seems to be some indirect benefits with the videos, not worth any money, but I think Google will work hard with it to attract suitable advertisements, they didn't pay 2 billion for utube for nothing.

It looks good and I think it will fit well with some blogs rather than others, that's my assessment at this stage and I'm already turning to selectivity, but with such escalating numbers of bloggers I can't see much financial benefit if their adsense so far is any parameter. Good for Google as it has such a wide base, not so good for us, unless anyone else has anything to say on the matter, but most seem too scared or completely disinterested.

So I'll leave it at that, and decide myself what I'll do in the long run, I don't like being an unpaid forum for free publicity for advertisers.

Thanks for your responses.
